Google Apps Integration Project- Cohort 2

County:
Del Norte
School District:
Del Norte County Unified
Name of School:
Del Norte High School

The Google Apps Integration Project is designed to bring the collaborative power of Google Apps into Del Norte High School (DNHS) as we work to increase teacher technology implementation skills and improve 21st century skills in our students. The project team will be trained as Google Certified Teachers and work as trainers and coaches to the staff at Del Norte High School and the district as we implement Google Apps into the curriculum. Google Apps is a suite of online, cloud-based applications including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Presentation, Google Spreadsheets and Google Calendar that improve collaboration and productivity in the classroom. The project team will use their knowledge as they work with colleagues to create a matrix of 21st century and technology skills to be used as a framework for a graduation requirement. The project will provide needed technology and collaboration tools for staff and students as we evolve into 21st century education. Between Spring of 2011 and 2013 team members will receive training and certification in the use of Google Apps. Core team members will then act as trainers and coaches to staff at DNHS and ultimately district wide. In the fall of 2011 core members and DNHS staff will create a matrix of 21st century skills and student activities to meet these skills. As a result of the project all students will graduate with a digital portfolio, which demonstrates their 21st century skill proficiency. Using Google Apps , a suite of cloud-based technologies, is an innovative step in the education of our students. We plan to bring collaborative computing technologies to our students and provide them with current skills needed to succeed in college and career as they prepare to enter work in the digital age.
